Jobryan26's cold-air conversion
Just been digging through the archives for this message and I'm planning on doing the conversion (replacing the crappy airbox on an 87 ta with a k&n + pvc pipe) and was wondering if anyone else has done this mod or has any suggestions.

Ok everyone, i have the sizes and part # for the cone and some instructions. This comes from and is credited to JOBRYAN26 who sent me the details, so we all owe him thanks for this. Ok...look above to the pictures for visuals, the bottom two(save, draw, print them if you can and mark them accordingly). Here we go: This is all 3" PVC piping found at Lowes, Home Depot, ACE Hardware, or a plumbing store. The boot on the TB stays put. He used a 3" PVC elbow(90-degree angle-use the "long" 90-degree one, because there is a short version also), and cut off the overlap on one end of the elbow so it could fit snugly into the boot(you may need to use WD40, becuase its a tight fit). The next piece is another piece of 3" PVC piping, from the elbow to the MAFS was either 4 or 6" long. But in order to connect the two pieces(the middle PVC pipe and the MAFS), he used the rubber gasket that was at the same place(connected MAFS to airbox) and unfolded it. Where the elbow is hooked up to the MAFS, he took it off, and shaved the little alignment tab off so he could turn it how he needed it. At the end, is the K&N filter...part #DFM9601C. Costs $37.95, the cheapest price he could find for it, from: http://www.thefordsource.com/store/m...duction_3.htm. Should take about an hour or so to do. You will also need about 5 rubber hose fasteners that screw to tighten(same kind as you see in the pic) for this mod. Good luck everyone. The f*****g airbox is pi$$ing me off too....
BTW-you will hear a strong sucking noise, that is very audible...JOBRYAN26 told me about it...its normal. ENJOY!

If all goes well, I'll be sending a tech article into thirdgen.

ok, I recently did my PVC comversion, not to be confused with PCV (positive crankcase ventelation).
I bought an
3" to 4" PVC elbow,
about 6 inches of 4" PVC pipe,
about 6 inches of the 3" PVC Pipe.
a 4" Fernco
and a 3" Fernco
The Ferncos are the rubber ends, they let the engine torque without breaking things, they came with the hose clamps.
Total price: about $25.00, if you buy the PVC glue & cleaner for gluing from Lowe's.
The 4" Fernco is rather large, and will have to be tightend onto the throttlebody, Mine does NOT leak at all. the 3" will not stretch around the Throttlebody.
The 3" Fernco is Really close to the altenator, (about 1/4") but if you tighten your aircleaner asm down good, you should not have any problems. I also had to well tighten the 3" fernco onto the MAF sensor.
I used a file to round the pipes edges so it fit well together and the airflow would be smooth. Trial fit everything together, I only used about 2 1/4" of 4" pipe, and about 3 5/16" of the 3" pipe.
Reach inside the pipe and feel for the rough edges where the elbow & pipe meet in the elbow, and repair as needed.
The 4" Fernco on the end of the Throttlebody to the beginning of the Elbow is a perfect fit, to push lightly on the upper radiator core support.
NOTE: The 4" pipe & fernco might be a little large on the T/A hood, it rubbs on the hoodliner, but does not push on hood on my Formula. Since you have those louvers on the hood, I do not know where they come into play.
I also took the stock Aircleaner canister and drilled off the top plastic piece. When you remove the top, drill out the hole, this should let you remove the metal piece that actually seals the top of the canister. see picture. (I did not have mine painted when I took this picture a few days ago.)
