A Question for the Masters of the TPI Relm : )
OK, let me start out by saying... I'm not asking if I should do this, I'm asking would it work if I did do it.
Let's say I manage to lay my hands on a clean 305 IROC or Z... Would the computer in it's stock form be able to support a mild 327?
Would TPI be compatible with the high revving characteristics of a 327?... I'm thinking the TPI would boost low-end torque... But would it fall short in the upper RPM range where a 327 really shines?
All this got going in my head after I went to Super Summit IX, at Summit Racing Equipment last Saturday, and I saw a 327 '70 Nova. It got me thinking of the '69 Impala I had back in the day, which had a 327/Powerglide 2spd auto combo. Of all the small blocks I've owned over the years that was my absolute favorite.
I was just thinking it would be something you don't see every day in a thirdgen Camaro, a TPI 327 that is.

Define support. If you mean would it run then hell yes...especially if you get a MAF car. I ran my IROC w/ a superram on the stock chip for a long time (too lazy to install my dfi). Would it run perfect, no...but I didn't expect it to. Just make sure you upgrade the injectors when you do the swap and get at least a chip for a 350.

I think you already suspect the answer to this one, but anyway...
The 305 TPI will run the 327, but not very well at the RPM where a typical 327 makes the most power. Most 327s come to life at 4,000 RPM, and that's unfortunately where most TPI systems begin to die. I'd agree more with Whiterocz, in that a miniram setup or dual TBI (not CFI) would be the nuts on that engine.
I would suspect that the 327 would require a more fuel-rich mixture than the 305 if for nothing else than the shorter stroke. Even a 302 would need more fuel. Larger injectors would be necessary, as well as a 350 detonation sensor. You might be better off getting a PROM from a 350 and taking it from there. You would probably have a lot less adjustment to do. If you do the math, a 350 is really a 349-something. The 327 has the same 4" bore, same heads and valve sizes, and is dead-center between the displacement of the 305 and 350. Go a little fuel-fat with the 350 setup and trim as necessary, or the 327 will starve even more because of the leaner fuel mapping of the 305 programming.
Yes, a 327 ThirdGen could be a cool ride.

First of all thanks for the replies, and secondly, yes I have gathered enough info to tell me that the TPI/327 combo isn't going to work.

I'd be shopping for a carb manifold drilled for injection. Holley and Edelbrock both make them, and you can get the computer and harness with them. That'd be a nice combo on a 327. Keep in mind you won't have that extra low end that TPI would give you, so build the rest of the car accordingly (i.e. loose convertor if auto, or low gears if manual.) Good luck.
