Firebird Upgrade Ideas?...

Hey everyone,
I have a 1989 Firebird SSA with the 2.8 multi. I was wondering what would be some good ideas to upgrade on the car. Would it be worth it to dump about 5-8 grand in the car? I'm wondering what type of options I have to improve the performance. Drop in a 350? Look for a 3.8 Turbo engine? Dump money into my v6? Any ideas help.

You'll probably get some better answers on the V6 board. For 5-8 grand you could get a Formula 350, plus $$$ for some mods like exhaust, etc. It's not worth putting that much money into a V6.

Keep in mind though, if you want Full coverage insurance, you can put 5k in a Formula 350 and have the 350 insurance. Keep your V6 Car and do What I did to my LG4, install a TPI, and soon a 383. The ins company does not have a clue, and cause my car is so darn nice, I have more than $13000 worth of insurance. but only pay $700 a year for ins. My 87 TPI car that I have I will pay $200 more just because it had more power from the factory. get my point.

I could car less about how much I could sell it for. I love my car and I know more about it than most people, maybe not here, but in general.

i thought of a great combo i haven't seen on this site keep it a v/6 go with a 4.3 vortec motor (basically a 350 with the two middle cylinders cut out)there are places to buy steel cranks and rods for it and throw on an ati procharger(intercooled optional)it'll give you good gas mileage when your foot isn't planted and a devlish smile when you rip apart v/8's with your six i did see a while back a guy running a 70 camaro with a heavily juiced(3 stages of nitrous)v/6 running low 8's in the nmca street car class so it can be done or duplicate the typhoon or syclone motor by going with the 4.3 you dont have to worry about crossmember location for the automatic as well as the bolt pattern(3.8's are quite different.plus any accessory system will match up same as v/8 along with motor mounts etc.

Thanks for the responses guys. Okfoz, Is it legal to swap engines from say a v6 to a v8 without telling the insurance agency...or could it be considered fraud? I am thinking about an LT1 with SLP upgrades (~$2500upgrade=450HP),a six-speed tranny from a 92 and up corvette, and the corresponding components. Then slapping on a nice blue paint job, with matching blue and white interior. Too much? Unreasonable? Not possible? I'm thinking that I might be able to up my budget to about 10k. This car will be my keeper. Thanks
