what am i looking at here?
well i've got questions about these 2 pics. The is some thingy on the passenger side of the throttle body with a cap over it , is this where the idle set screw is located underneath???? Was reading the article about resetting tps and iac and i cant seem to find the idle screw so maybe that it i dunno know????
the 2nd is the tpi airbox i think someone just plugged the hole where the iat sensor should go in to. Am i right? If so where does the iat wiring originate from? How important is it to have it located there? I have no check engine light so does it seem propable that a previous owner set the iat at a different location for the possibility of a performance gain???
thanks guys.

Re: what am i looking at here?
The cap is on the throttle body coolant outlet tube, I believe. That plug in the air-box is where I relocated the IAT sensor to on my car, as the IAT was originally installed in the lower side of the plenum, toward the rear. My air box originally had a flat spot in the location of your plug. Maybe different year models had the IAT sensor installed in the air-box, from the factory?

Re: what am i looking at here?
thanks quite helpful.
yah i pulled that cap off the tb lol, seems someone definetly has done the tb bypass mod. still can't beleive that little flat chrome cap plugs that but, it does......... I threw it back on with a crap load of rtv so i'm crossing my fingers that it will work a 2nd time.
still need to know where the iat sensor wiring originates from on an 89 maf set if any1 knows

Re: what am i looking at here?
on the v8 tpi the iat is located on the bottom of the plenum. the v6 mpfi had them located on the air lid. apparently a previous owner has changed air lids for a v6 one. they are the same as the v8's with the exception of the the iat location. there are pros and cons to relocating the iat to the air lid if yours isn't like that from the factory. some will say there are more cons than pros.

hmm don't know anything about the iat on tpi's use to tbi's more than tpi still anyways i'll search the relocation mod as i hate looking at that plug lol.

Re: what am i looking at here?
The wiring originates from the same extension of the harness that leads to your coil and dist. First check if the IAT is still there and look for cut wires. Good luck.

Re: what am i looking at here?
appreciate the info guys! Seems i'm better off just getting another y styled intake pipe off the v8 cars since someone must have swapped mine along the way.
i searched a bit and it seems the only thing on a maf car is make your egr non functional. I figured it had a small amount to do with the fueling but, not so from my reading.
also i found that it's actually a mat sensor not an iat decent difference i would expect the temps would be huge variances if i moved it. Either way thanks for the info everyone.
1 last question does any know where the idle set screw type thing is on the tb on an 89 car?

Re: what am i looking at here?
theres no need to get another intake duct, that on is fine, if you aren't showing in trouble codes, that means your iat/mat is under the plenum and working. and the huge difference by moving the iat/mat to the duct is a good difference, its a more accurate reading due to it not having heat soak from the intake, it will actually read the air temp rather than 100* more than it actually is.

Re: what am i looking at here?
sure it would read incoming air temp (cold air).
thing is it is a mat sensor (manifold absolute temp), not intake air temp.......
in otherwords i'm sure the engineers would have made it that if i moved it to my cold air intake, it would never have a registered value high enough to make my egr valve properly function which would increase combustion temps and therefore hurt me with my stock styled engine more than it would help me.
the reason i wanted a duct is just because, that plug is ugly to look at nothing more....

Re: what am i looking at here?
It's super easy to find the idle set screw. It's right where the throttle linkage is on the TB (i.e. where your throttle cable hooks up). You'll notice there's a little tab cast into the throttle arm, and if you open the throttle up a bit, you'll be able to see a little, threaded screw sitting behind it. If it's never been tampered with, there's a metal cap pressed into the hole that the idle screw is in, so to gain access to the head of the screw, you have to remove the cap. The screw has a torx head, T20 if I remember right. One way to remove the cap is to drill a really small hole in the center of the cap, then screw a self-tapping type screw into the hole you drilled, then put vice grips on the self-tapping screw, and yank the cap out. If you're careful about it, you can also get the cap out by tapping a really small flat-headed screwdriver in between the edge of the cap and the TB housing, and carefully prying the cap out of the hole. That's how I removed it on my TBI car. Btw, I snagged a V6 air intake for my TPI car just so I could have the option of relocating the IAT sensor if I ever decide to try it. It's one of those "free mods" that some people say makes a big difference, and others say it does nothing. I haven't personally tried it yet, so I really can't say one way or the other.
