timing - damper mark

The mark on my damper is a little confusing. Theres like a big white mark that stretches about an inch wide. Towards the left inside the white patch is a yellow line, and towards the right within the patch is a blank space. Anyone know which one to judge by? Thanks.

There should be a groove in the balancer about 1/16" deep that runs all the way across the balancer. It almost sounds like someone put that white mark on there and the other mark... I hope it hasnt slipped and thats why its marked like that.

best way to find TDC is get a piston stop and MANUALLY turn over the engine. Don't use the starter with a piston stop unless you wanna replace the piston. I'd guess you'll need a 1/2" drive ratchet with a 5/8" socket. There's a bolt in the center of the crank pulley, in case you didn't know, and just turn over the engine that way.

It'll go forward and stop then you make a mark on the balancer. Then turn the engine back til it stops and make a mark and directly inbetween is true TDC. This is one #1 piston too just in case.
