CARB to TPI?!?!?!?
Doesn't anyone do a Carb to TPI swap on their Third-gens? I love MPFI cars. I picked up a 86 305 TPI engine with 60k on it. Got the Engine Harness and ECU that gose with it.
It seems that everyone is going TPI to CARB. If you can tune the car can't you get out the similar preformance out of the engine?
When I get closer to building the new motor I will probably start researching the tuner programs.
Do you guys think I've got most of the stuff I need. Engine is complete except for the alternator. (powersteering pump was on there)
I have a used stock In-Tank pump as well. No factory fuel lines though.
I see that the wiring harness gose from the driverside firewall, to the engine, and then over to the passenger side, and back in the car to the ECU. Where would the diagnostic plug for checking codes be located? Is it part of the engine/ecu harness or the Dash/interior harness. I doubt my 85 carb z28 has/had one. I'm not sure though.
Hoping it will be a direct swap to my 85 Z28 5spd car that I bought in December. I'm tryin to ditch the emissions though as I'm taging it Antique. Its going to be my new fun car. I'm putting the 305 in for the time being to get it mobile and fix other issues. I plan on building a 350 roller to put in it. Just not right now. I want to get the Car all "pretty'd" up and functional. (someone was tearing it down for the trans and then lost interest. I'm putting it back together. Talk about a wreck.

Re: CARB to TPI?!?!?!?
I swapped my Carbed 305 in my '86, to a TPI 350 from a '87 GTA.
The GTA I used was pretty much complete in the drivetrain. Swapped fuel tank and lines, but couldn't get the fuel pump to kick on, so I just swapped the dash and cluster anyways. (140 speedo and 8k tach)
I don't know the exact methods when using the carb interior harness, or whats different, but I had it and didn't take long to swap them.
A lot of people go carb because TPI is limited in its power range. Can spend money on aftermarket setups that get pricey, or go carb .
