Can a stock ecm be swapped for a ACCEL ecm without changing anything else?
Hi all,
Ive noticed that the factory GM ecm & the Accel ecm looks similar in appearance. Is it possible to buy a Accel ecm for my 86 tpi & simply swap one for the other? Do the wiring harness for the ecm in both units plug in the same way? Do the Accel unit use all of the original GM sensors? I would rather buy the Accel's ecm & practice my programing skills with the portable programer that they sell instead of burning chips. Chip burning seems very complicated

programming wth the accel takes less time since it's on the fly tthey do make adapter harnesses for the accel to control tthe engine and the original ecm to control everything else to much money 1200 atleast

87 trans am,gm crate 350(4 bolt mains 10to1),L98 aluminum heads,LT4 hot cam,slp runners,slp 1 5/8 headers,3in.y-pipe,edelbrock base,hi flo cat,air foil,afpr,as&m ported plenum,gutted airbox,t-5 tranny w/centerforce clutch and a 3.27 9bolt(11.9in. brakes),ed wright's fastchip,relocated iat sensor,160 fan switch,tb bypass,accel supercoil,cap& rotor,hollowed maf,slp 3in. catback,a/c delete.
shooting for 13's!!!!!!!

The accel piggyback unit was discontinued a long time ago, and it was around 600 bucks including software.
The DFI is not a direct replacement, you will need an adapter harness for it to work. I have seen anywhere from 125 to 400 for an adapter harness.
