Code 45 questions
I just got a code 45 while driving somewhere. I know that it is rich oxygen sensor so there is a problem somewhere. I have read all of the old posts about it and have noticed that it really points to just a few parts. The CTS, O2 sensor, maybe the T-Stat. I have just recently replaced the CTS and the O2 sensor (not as recently as the CTS) and the T-Stat is not that old. I had a scan tool put to it not to long ago and the person running it did not notice anything out of the ordniary. I am no where close to being car literate. What else could I do to find out what exactly is wrong with it. I am not sure that I will have use of the scan tool for a while cause he is gone with the Army right now. Thanks for the help.

pull the o2 sensor out and see if it is covered in black soot. if it is then it actually is running rich and you must find out why. if it is white then it is not running rich and your o2 sensor is bad.
i would also check the vacuum line from the evap. canister. pull the line, and if fuel runs out, that is your problem. also a possible leaking injector(s). best of luck. tom

Maybe that guy running the scantool just doesn't know jack about cars.....lol Anyways, yeah I did not see any DTCs present the last time I had my laptop (Craig Moates software) on your car. What were the conditions when the light came on and did you notice anything unusual about the car's performance/driveability (ie stumbling, missing, etc.)?

I was only at part throttle when the light kicked on. There was no smell of gas at the time and the car didnt do anything out of the ordinary. The light didnt stay on after I cut the car off and turned it back on. I also just started the car a little while ago and the light didnt turn on. Do you think I should disconnect the battery to clear the codes and see if it happens again?
