How much change b4 new prom
Hey guys, this is a pretty simple question, but I have been wondering for awhile... How much can you change on your car before you HAVE to change the chip, or else it just wont run right anymore? Thanks...

Usually you can change anything except the cam and heads. Those have the most impact on the engine.

With MAF you can get away with alot before change, SD very little, as above heads cam are your biggest changes next would be rocker ratio. SD burn your cips soon after mods, MAF you can wait alittle longer but will still need to burn eventually to realize full potential.
Aftermark stuff will get you buy for awhile too if that is an option. But there is no substitue for a custom chip when mods get heavy.

1989 Trans Am GTA, L98 5.7L TPI, TH700-R4, T-Tops, dual cats, 9-bolt rear, 3.27, Dynomax muffler, K&N
1992 Camaro RS, LO3 5.0L TBI, T-5, T-Tops, 3.08, L69 Dual Snorkel, K&N - Sold
Honda engines ROCK, I have one on my lawn mower but I still have to push it.

Please stop saying that you have to burn a new chip with every mod on a speed density. Its been proven over and over again that is not true. Yes speed density is a little more sensitive to mods, but its not as bad as you make it out to be. In fact, I ran my previous engine, a ZZ4 350 L98 with 1.6 rockers and SLP 1 5/8" headers, on the stock 305 5-speed chip, and had no problems.
