I have read an old posts about installing a 400 sbc in a f-body with the stock tpi set up. I have considered this option. And i know what my 400 is capable of without using the stock tpi. I have a 400 sbc and a 87 iroc.
My question is after i rebuild my 400 can use my 350 center bolt heads('88 1 piece) on my 400 ('75 2 piece)Block?. I want to bolt my stock tpi on the block.
Another question is being that the 350 heads have a small chamber compared to the 400. Will the compression ratio be too high to run on a stock tpi???

Well its not as simple as all that. Yes your heads will bolt up to the motor. All gen1 sbc chevy motors have a common deck size and head bolt pattern. So obviously you can bolt your TPI setup onto a 400 motor. But unless your building the project as time and money allow those heads and a stock intake are entirely too restrictive to make use of the extra cubic inches. Also becareful what kind of camshaft you use, major prom work is necessary in some cases depending on the style(mechanic, hydrolic, etc.) cam you use as well as limitations on lift and duration.

its gonna be mild but torquey. I got my hands full with my turbo z 28. i have thought about putting in my 400 in my 86 z 28 but not really interested on toasted it on my turbo setup. and gonna put my 350 block (out of my iroc) into my turbo z 28.
the setup will work. There are a few things to keep in mind to make this a sucsessfull and worthwhile swap. If you want to keep the stock tpi setup you must port the manifold. Otherwise the engine will choke on its self and the outcome will not be nearly a spectacular as expected. secondly is that you must drill steamholes in the heads for the 400. While not being very difficult, this is very important for the longevity for the engine. Those things consitered, it should be a pretty good running combo.
Cheers!!!
