the great cam debate
alright guys, here it is. i have an 86 LB9 with a 700R4 and 3.23 gears. i am puttin in a cam. here are my 2 choices, which one do you suggest?
1 comp cams XE256H-12 with 212/218*duration
.449/.456 112 LSA
2. comp cams XE262-14 with 218/224*duration
.464/.470 114 LSA
i like the second one better obviously. is it too radical? if the 2nd one is too radical i would run the 1st one. i have the peanut cam so anything is better than what i have.

305/700R4/3.23 gears

3.73 gears

The second cam could be made to work, but it will really be less than ideal w/o a good intake and heads.
I'd run the first one, stick with your 3.23 rear, and spend the money saved on a cheap converter (S10 or vette, ~2400 stall, <$200), and/or some intake parts (aftermarket or ported stock base, and some runners). I guarantee it would be faster this way.

Stock except ported plenum and dual cats
-=ICON Motorsports=-
- Definitely prototypes, high powered mutants of some kind. Too weird to live, too cool to die

thanks. i had planned on hand porting and gasket matching the intake like shown in Vader's article. the first cam was suggested to me by comp cams. teh second was suggested by i believe Vader. (or i may have found it, not sure which of us found that one) i just wanted the best gain for my money. eventually i will build a real motor but for now i will enjoy what i have. i may be able to burn a chip for it in the future. thanks for the help. i am just trying to get the well educated opinions of you smart guys.
