crane adjsutable fuel regulator question

hey guys i installed a crane adjsutable fuel pressure regulator

also new regulator diaphram.

i also installed new ford 19lb injectors for my 1986 305 5.0 v8 engine

i get this ticking sound and its not my lifters

i thought it was my injectors but after touching the fuel regulator it seems to be ticking there

now could it be because theres a little coin plate inside against a screw that adjusts the pressure against the spring inside and when the car is on the pressure maybe flucuates to a point where the spring inside and bouncing back n forth between the plate and the screw and thats where i get my ticking sound?

and if so is it ok? has anyone else experienced this?

please give your info thanks

and the car runs fine so its not hurting my performance just annoying and i wnat to make sure its not something wrong.

Re: crane adjsutable fuel regulator question

man this ticking sound has been reported from time to time. My stock fpr ticks too. I almost wonder if the fuel pump isn't strong enough (read almost dead) and the spring is going up and down as the pressure goes up and down...???... So that ticking sound is the tiny little plate on the bottom of the spring that is contacting the piece that the fpr bolts too.... i dunno just a thought.
Does that make sence?
hey what did you torque the fpr bolts to?

Re: crane adjsutable fuel regulator question

I installed a Crane AFPR a few months ago. It doesn't tick...

Did you put any pressure on the adjustment screw? I put just enough tension to make solid contact with the "coin", and added a third turn more, which measured 49-50 PSI at the fuel rail.

How loud is the tick?

cyrstal ***** don't exist. your answer is there if you look.

someone has one it does not click. your clicking started after install?

remove it check all pieces are installed correctly and try again. if it still clicks
maybe a call to crane will get issue resolved.

if they are no help. send it back where ya got it use the credit to buy the more expensive HOLLY brand. it is a pleasure to adjust compared to any other. not to mention the quality is better. i went through 2 other brands before finally biteing the bullet and paying for the HOLLY one.

the whole top spins vs there being a screw which is a pita to get to.

The Holly housing is much nicer, too bad the diaphragms are crap! They leak! I went through 3 before giving up and buying a Crane.
