fuel pump question

I read that when swapping from tbi to tpi that you dont have to drop the tank, you can just instal an inline pump, and it can suck fuel right through the stock intank tbi pump. Is this true?

Re: fuel pump question

You could probably do that, but IMO it would be more difficult than just doing it right. Your in-tank pump is probably about shot anyway, not to mention a dirty/plugged sock.

Re: fuel pump question

I know itd be better to just go with an intank pump and drop the tank but omg, that means a full day or more of work for me, too many things to undo including spending more $ for another exhaust system, because I have a true dual setup and there are two mufflers under the tank. If you can just use an inline pump, that would be the best for me, not for permant, but what im asking is will it feed enough pressure, and what should be done with the stock intank pump? Do I just disconnect it, or what?

Re: fuel pump question

it may..... but it may not, which would damage the new pump. IMHO, i would just drop the tank and do it right the first time. if you are anything like me, youll never touch it again... with the exhast, you should either be able to undo the muffler clamps, or take the gromets off and be able to move the pips just far enough to get it out. another thing i have done before on a TA, is cut a hatch right above the tank, and use it as an acsses hole. but when i did this, i went all out and repainted everything, and used quality hinges, so that i could get to it easier. didnt have a reason to do it, just wasnt working at the time..... find a way to drop the tank, and do it right the first time. you will be a lot happier in the end.
