Re: timing tab help.....
As long as the tab is useable, it shouldn't matter. I believe the factory base setting is 6* BTDC, but I could be wrong.

Re: timing tab help.....
Yeah ....NO they are not the same You could just go buy a new harmonic balancer for a pre 87 350 or 305. The timing tab on 87+ engines is rotated 30 degrees upward, to clear the Accessory brackets I think, so you can hit it with the timing light. With the new harmonic balancer just buy a timing tab for either the 7 or 8 inch balancer, to match your new one, it will say on the package. Your local Advance Auto should be able to help you out in the Mr. Gasket section.
The other option is to just put the timing tab on the timing cover you have and then put your lead on the number two lead instead of one. Its been awhile since i did the math but I think you time it to 15 degrees and that is TDC with the lead on the #2 SP wire. Move your distributor until you get your desired timing. Dont forget to unplug the wire either or it will be completly useless.
You might do the math again. but I do remember the Balancers being 30* apart.
