i know the ignition system on an 85' Z28 is diferent than on an 89' Formula (both TPI) what is different about them? are the cap and rotor different? I am asuming that MSD makes a wiring harness. any info would be nice.

 

The later TPI cars (except 'vette) use a small-cap distributor with a divorced coil. Your '85 probably uses coil-in-cap style.

 

What does the Msd 6al consist of ? Are you replacing the cap, coil, and rotor?

I am also planning to replace the cap, rotor and coil; but was wondering if i had to use the timing gun or not?

I just want to change out those three, since the plugs and wires barely have 3500 miles on them.....

 

i know that... im just woundering how the MSD conects on an 85' im more familar w/ the system on my 89'
