Re: What do you think?

wish i had your bank account to buy that price list. if you want to go TPI why not just buy a tpi unit? what are your plans for the car, that is the big question? drag, street, street/strip? as far as your header selection buy the hooker 2055s which come w/ a Y pipe already that is perfect for our cars. if you got the coin to purchase stuff like that but AS&M runners which are by far the best and get a TPiS intake base which is matched for it.

for the suspension im going w/ KYB GR2s w/ a set of WS6 springs. ive heard good and bad on the GR2s so i guess it will be a personnel preference.

Re: What do you think?

a good deal, hard to estimate but i would say itll probably not be something for a daily driver. there are alot better options out there then what you want to go w/ to get a very street/strip TPI. do some more research dont just go directly to summit. plus it would be cheaper. my

From your Perspective what do you think I should do to make atleast 300RWHP,in the Camaro? Without having to swap out trany or motor?

Re: What do you think?

thats easy. swap to TPI of course. get AS&M runners, port your plenum to match runners and port heads to match intake, TPiS intake, set of good headers(i recommend hooker 2055s), cat back, cam(something computer friendly), 1.5 or 1.6 roller rockers plus new springs and screw in studs(will depend on your cam choice), hotter ignition(but dont go overboard w/ this part), custom chip. may need to rebuit the bottom end depending on the condition of it. that should make well over 300 at the wheels. plus will be alot cheaper than your current shopping list.

could also swap heads but no real need to.

give me more details on your car.

You can make 300 RWHP from your TBI pretty easily. EBL running a 454 TBI on top of an High Rise carb type intake with enough engine under it.

Re: What do you think?

honestly the cheapest place you can find them. do your research and search on here. use ebay, the for sale forums on here, links you also see here, summit and jegs are also good sources. dont just jump into buying parts. research is the key. know where you want to go b4 you do it. exhaust all options b4 you buy. research what will work together also. you can buy the most expensive parts and not get great results b/c parts may not be compatable. you dont have to spend a ton of money to make 300 RWHP.

I am going to take a wild guess that with your signature (817bigtex)you are in the Midcities area here in DFW, like I am. There are a couple of places here local and then you have mail order. I prefer Jegs and sometimes use Summit.

I am from Hurst. There is a guy in Los Colinas that owns a shop, called Redman Racing, his name is Rodney. I will look for his number, I just moved into a new house so its packed away somewhere. He has done a couple of pairs of Vortec heads for me. The last pair he did for me went on a 350 TBI with a custom roller cam and a carb intake, running a 454 TBI. Self tuned chip in the ECM. Put down 373 RWHP on Speedtech's (Haltom City) Dyno.

What heads and intake are you thinking of porting? The stock TBI stuff?

Richland hills is pretty close to me. I've been pulled over entirely too many times on Hwy 10 for stupid stuff.

Speedtek is cheap on their dyno days. You get 3 pulls for like $35 or $45, been a while don't remember which. Its normally $75 for 3 pulls with AFR.

He doesn't have a website, its his method of playing while not working in the Aerospace field. He is an engineer with too much free time. You might have even seen his 69 camaro running around locally. He lives in the HEB area and has a Red Pro Street 69 Camaro with a Blower sticking out of the hood and huge slicks. Puts out around 1,000 RWHP.

I would honestly go over to Elliot Reeder and find a pair of Vortec heads. I picked up a pair of 059 castings from a 305 Express van for $100.00. I then took them over to the Machine Shop across the street from SpeedTek, I think its called Second opinon or something like that. They milled them .015" to make sure they were flat and did a valve job. I put them on my last 305. I did the port work myself on them. In all honesty, what you are trying to do could be achieved with a pair of stock port 059 vortecs. They have the 58cc 305 chamber and 1.84/1.50" valves in them. They flow around 230 cfm out of the box on the intake side which beats the hell out of the 160ish from your stock 305 TBI castings. Combine them with a cam that will move more air, a full exhaust system, and a matching Vortec specific intake, and you have the workings for a good combo. It will need some custom tuning though to run properly. I could honestly see a 275 RWHP 305 TBI Vortec pull pretty easily.

275RWHP,that is pretty good. What other heads do you recommend, but im going TPI. You know the Kit I posted on here from Summitracing.com,is that a good kit to go TPI? Also forgot to mention have you been to that junkyard called Dos Amigos, went last time and they have alot of Express vans.

You can also go with Aluminum 113 Vette/ZZ4 heads or 081 TPI heads. I think your plans are a little overkill for your goals. For a 305 to make good HP, it doesn't take that much money. I even think the TPI is overkill for you goals. The kit you listed is a good one, but definately overkill. I have run both TPI and TBI and can say a TBI is every bit as capable making power as a TPI and in some cases even more capable. You can go ALOT further with stock TBI parts than you can stock TPI parts. Such as the stock TBI unit on your car can easily support 325 FWHP, just do the ultimate TBI mods, put a TPI pump in the tank, and run the GM 1994/1995 Truck 30 PSI regulator. Put it on the right intake on top of the right top-end and give the ECM the right calibration. It will FLY.

Here is how I would go about hitting your goal, just my opinon so don't shoot me yet. Much more affordable. To open them just click on the part name

Heads

Head Gaskets

Intake

Intake Bolts (Vortec Specific)

TBI to 2bbl Adapter

Headers

Camshaft (Get this one for a Factory Roller Block)

The Flash EBL (To control everything)

When properly tuned, the engine will pull hard from idle to 5,600 rpm, have a fairly smooth idle, and a very strong torque curve. The cam and heads are not so wild as to kill your mileage either. I see 315 FWHP a very possible outcome. That would make 250+ RWHP though an automatic F-body. Great power from a 9:1 compression 305. Don't let the RPM band of the intake throw you. That is on a carbed engine that requires a vacuum signal to meter fuel. With the TBI the fuel is injected into suspension and you will still have great low-end torque. I ran that exact manifold on my 350 Vortec in a Fullsize Van as a daily driver. Still had loads of torque down low.

Re: What do you think?

Wow, that is lots of money worth of parts. I found a 350 HP crate motor rated at 300 hp on ebay. I am going to swap the cam and put on all my tpi stuff from my current motor. Run a better fuel pump and regulator with 24lb injectors. I found a good supercharger kit off ebay for $750 (good for 5-8 psi). After all that, I am going to get a custom chip burned for $250. Total cost of project, around $2500. I do all the installation in my garage. I am projecting 11 to 12's in the quarter mile. I am posting this just to tell you that you don't need to spend a lot of money to go quick.
