Bigger means better?
Bigger means better?
I have a 1986 IROC-Z with a 305 TPI. To get more power, most seem to suggest getting a 350. Couldn't you just bore out the 305, and gain power that way. I was thinkin of doing this before building up my engine. Is this a good idea, or not? I was thinking of going up to around 327cid
If you are going to pull the motor, why not put a 350 in it any way? And,if you were going to stroke or bore the 305,why not stroke the 350 to a 383?There is no substitute for cubic inches!Just a suggestion.
to get 327ci out of a 305 would be hard because you wouldnt be able to bore it that much. even if you bored it to 60 over you would be at about 315ci. remember when a machine shop bores an engine it all cost the same, it doesnt matter if its a 305 or a 400 the cost is the same, at least it is here. they domake stroker kits for the 305, i have no idea how much they cost or what the gains are but i think it yeilds you around 335ci. if it was me, and i have been in your seat befor, i would just build a 350. if you dont have the cash for a new motor i would start by adding things like headers, cat-back, runners, etc. HTH

to bore the 305 to a 350 bore that .125"
the cylinder walls arent that thick to control
heat transfer.. i think they are .155-.163
thick. plus the shift would be too offset.
if you want to get into a 350 cheap, get the
GM#12513151 roller, plus its the 350 TPI
replacement engine. $1500 NEW 36mo/50k warr
if you feel jiggy, cam it up a little...
sallee chevrolet sells 285hp for $1800. FYI
