TPI or CARB?
Hey everyone,
Well it's official, I'm getting a 350 this summer. I plan to make it a 383, but that depends on my bank account.
Anyways I have a 305 TPI right now, and some people on a Ford forum I hang out at say I should go carb because I can H/C/I it.
Wouldn't it be easier to stay TPI? All I need is a computer from a 350 TPI car right? What are the benefits of the TPI and Carb. Honeslty I don't know what a carb is really.
Also, if I find a Carb'd 350, can't I use my TPI system from the 305? How hard is that to do?

Please tell me you didn't mean to say you don't know what a carb is.
I'll tell you what it is if you tell me what H/C/I means.
Why would you listen to a Ford guy about a Chevy anyway?

Heads/Cam/Intake? (For top end?)
If I go carb, what are the benefits over TPI? What about my current computer? Will I need to tune it?
I'm not worried about gas prices at all.

Re: TPI or CARB?
As far as I am concerned the only benefit would be the fact that you do not have all the electronic stuff to deal with.
As far as heads cam and intake, you can do all that with fuel injection. The fuel injection part of does cost more and is a pain in the tail to tune but I wouldn't have it any other way. In fact I just today started my new 383 with a nice cam and a set of sportsman heads, and yes, its fuel injected.
I know around here most people go with a carb because they do not know how to tune a FI car. My first choice is multi port fuel injection, second would be a carb and if I had no other choice I guess TBI.
My boat has a carb and forthe last couple years I been thinking about putting fuel injection on it.
Bottom line, its all about what YOU want.

Re: TPI or CARB?
it depends on your total goal of the car, TPI is restrictive up high so they arnt the easiest to build good strip cars with (not that it cant be done) but they make hellacious torque and are great for streetlight to street light cruisers, and u can do plenty to them but it will cost a good chunk more of money. the carbed intakes allow more free flowing air i wouldnt say going carbed is simplier, its a pain to tune good and u have to tune it frequently to keep running at peak. best of both worlds is a good aftermarket fuel injection setup...

Re: TPI or CARB?
The car will be a street light to street light car. I don't have the tools neccessary to tune the car. If the TPI makes more power, how much of a difference is there? How often do you have to tune the car to keep it running peak?
BTW: I just want this car to be fast and loud as possible. It will have muffler/cat delete. I don't want to spend much money, this time next year I'll have an LS1 Camaro.
Simple is better imo.
