phail :(

o k

I've had this problem for some time now but now that its summer and all my friends have their cars out its time to get my slomaro running.

I know the MAF is bad but it seems its gonna be more than just that.

The car doesn't wanna start in the morning until you crank it for like 10 seconds which makes me think there was a fuel problem.....my uncle (who I got the car from) said he replaced the fuel filter last year....anyway...the car has problems taking off from a light it wants to die but after feathering the throttle I can get it to take off and run fine at high rpm's.......I checked the codes back in the fall and it said something about the MAF as well as some kind of ignition problem but the guy said the MAF could be causing the ignition problem. Right now I am running with the MAF unplugged....I have new plugs, wires, cap and rotor.......any ideas???

Thanks,
Steve

Re: phail :(

Does the fuel pump prime (run for a couple seconds) when you turn the key on? If not, I'd be thinking the fuel pump relay is bad.

Re: phail :(

My car ran exactly like you are describing when I forgot to plug my MAF sensor back in (Both the cold start problem and the wanting to die from a dead stop). I'd say fix that first, running without a MAF sensor is going to kill your plugs and run you super rich killing your mileage, and mask any other potential problems since you KNOW that is bad.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but was your dying from a dead stop only a problem when the engine was cold or did it happen both warm and cold?

Re: phail :(

Thanks for the replies guys. The car definitely runs better in closed loop, not perfect but allot better then when it goes in open loop. Also, my fuel pump DOES prime up when I turn the key on.
