Need some advice on a TPI/Motor I purchased.
I just purchased a 5.7L tonight that the kid said was out of a 1988 Camaro with supposedly around 50,000 miles. He said that the motor ran good but had a slight knock in it. It has all the TPI set up on top and the motor is all complete minus the computer and wiring harness. After I got it home I pulled the pan and found that the back cylinder on the right side has a spun bearing in it, but amazingly enough it didnt hurt the crack or rod. The motor inside is OVERLY clean and I think does actually have the low mileage the kid claimed it had. I am new to the Fuel Injction world and was wondering if any of you could tell me just what I have and what kind of money it is worth if I were to sell it. or trade up to something better. Would any of you recomenned just putting a bearing kit in it and putting it back together? Also I have the numbers off the block and can any of you tell me anything more about it? On the front right pad just in front of the head it says...V1112CUA and below that is...
1JL131508. On the back of the motor there is a number cast in the block....14893638. Any help I can get would be great

Welcome to Thirdgen.org.
I wouldn't recommend a bearing kit, unless the crank and rod were checked. If the bearing spun, then the rod probably got hot due to lack of lubrication, and should at least be checked to see if it needs to be resized.
The cranks sould also be checked over well too, could have deposits on it from lack of lube which could wipe out a new bearing.

Thanks Mike for the welcome! I have been a member on www.chevelles.com for awhile and they informed me of this sight, they are both full of help. I agree with you that I should at least pull the crank and that rod to have them checked. To the naked eye they both look and feel as good as new but i know what you mean from the heat damage. The bearings that came out both were still smooth but they looked as though they were too big and were just smashed down when torqued. I hope they are both ok and i can put in a bearing kit and then sell the whole thing complete instead of parting out the TPI setup off the top.
