Hey MSD Tech!
Hey MSD Tech,
I installed the MSD 6al box, per MSD's "Gm wiring with dual connector coil". Aside from my tach not working at all, (expected) it appears the rev limited kicks in at 3,000RPM. THe little while thing on the side (pil?) says 6000 on it. Am I to assume this MSD is setup for a 4 cyl or something like that?? The guy I got it from, got it from a shop that did exclusively vtec stuff.

According to http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/6series.pdf, you modify the 6AL for 4 or 6 cylinder operation by cutting some wires; it may be possible to solder a jumper back on the wires, but likely you'll need to send the unit back to MSD to restore it to 8 cylinder operation.
They probably cut the loops on the unit to set it up for four cylinder. On the side of the unit there is a plastic cover with a phillips screw through the center of it. Take this cover off and there will a red and blue wire, these will have been cut. There is enough slack in the wires pull them out and reconnect them. This will set it back to 8 cylinder. As for the tach, make sure that both white wires are connected from the factory connector to the white of the MSD box. If this is OK, then look for a tach filter(with in about 11/2 feet of the coil), it will be about the size of a Jolly Rancher candy. By pass it if it is there and the tach will function with out any problems. If the tach filter is not in place then you unfortunately need the tach adapter part number 8910. Hope this helps
Thanks,
Joe

This is good information; thanks Joe! I didn't realize that MSD had the forethought to use enough wire to undo the 4cyl mod!
Now if I could only swap my MSD-6 for an MSD-6BTM...

Hey Man,
I crossed those loops and it works great. The tach jumps like hell if I connect to the tach terminal on the msd box. I couldn't get it to work in factory location, even when connecting it to the white wires. I'll double check today again, and look for the filter.
If not, I'll buy the MSD adapter.
Thanks!
