383 Super Ram Tuning Help

Hello all. I'm new here but hoping someone with a similar combination can lend a hand. I have recently built a 383 with AFR 195 heads,10.8 :1 compresion and a lingenfelter 74219 cam (218/218 - .560/.560 @ 1.6 rocker ratio). I am running a super ram and 36 lb injectors. An accel gen VI with wide band looks after the control.

Basically the combo pulls pretty good but feels a bit flat. I am hoping someone has a similar combo and some good insite on ignition and fuel curves to help speed along my tuning process.

THANKS!

Re: 383 Super Ram Tuning Help

I have a 395 cu.in. stroker with a ported SuperRam and run 24#/hr injectors. 36s seem fairly large to me. Assuming that you have a MAP car, work with the MAP table to acheive close to 128 in each FTC (0-15). In the first place, Set the fuel injector constant to what it should be flowing at the pressure you are using. Basically, I tune the idle stuff first, then I do the drivibility, then I tune WOT.

Re: 383 Super Ram Tuning Help

Thanks for the input Doc. The 36 pond injectors were sized around an eventual hopeful number of 460 hp at 80% duty cycle and a modest 43.5 psi and the idea of having some growing room for when I get brave enough to turn the nitrous back on.

If I read your resonse right your aiming for a 12.8 AFR in all of your wot map cells. I have been trying a little richer than that at about 12.3 to 12.5. I'll try leaning it out when I get the chance. My idle is dead smooth and drivability is great (easy to tune these two without getting arrested) its just the wot that is less than I think it should be. As soon as I finish my cold air and exhaust were off to the dyno to tune under more controlled conditions.

I'm having trouble with my ignition map...and was wondering what kind of advance you are running in the wot cells from about 3000 and up? I start encountering more knock than I would like with any timing above 25 degrees from 3000 to about 4800.....after that I can work my way up to about 32 degrees. I think I got a little gready on the compression ratio and with the short duration cam the dynamic CR may force me took at a burning a race / pump fuel mix if I want to run any more timing than this. (not too bad considering I can buy C12 cheeper than premium pump fuel up here right now)

Thanks again for the input.

Hey Doc was just thinking his 36lb injectors were alittle big myself for his combo. I was also thinking your 24LB SVO injectors were alittle small for your setup. I'm running 24LB injectors in my setup(see sig) I am planning on going to a 406 next year and was thinking of going to 30LB SVO injectors but you think 24LB SVO injectors can handle that many cubes??

Re: 383 Super Ram Tuning Help

I run 30lb injectors in a 406 around the same cam AFR alum heads
and it tuned up just fine, learn how to program your own chips
and you will be fine
