An LB9 ? For the TPI Gurus

Having a dissucsion over on the Historical/Restoration board and thought this question is best posted here.

Will one day want to put my LB9 back into my GTA Vert but would like to spruce it up all that it can be spruced before putting it back into the car. The reason I would want to go to all this trouble for something that has a low max hp/tq threshold is I would like to keep the car looking stock and maybe even show it as stock at some shows. I will not die if I dont show it but would like to have that option and

Now I get it, its not cost effective to MOD up an LB9, however if one wishes to do it anyway they would like to get the most out of there efforts.

Really what can be done to get all that can be gotten out of an LB9 while keeping it stealthy stock looking?

Is 300hp/375tq out of the ?

Here https://www.thirdgen.org/1989-chevy-camaro Ive seen the brand new LB9 get 230hp/300tq.

What do you all think?

first of all not a guru but how will someone tell if its not a l98 without laying across your motor or using mirrors to see the number

if you dont have the original motor for the car use a l98

if you have the org then put some flat tops in it, port and polish, bigger injectors, exhaust, ign, and a cam

You are correct, you cant tell the difference. I dont know how many **** judges are out there. But they cant see anything diff if they dont get mirrors crawling under cars etc.

In any case I do still have the orig #s motor and trans.

Has anyone seen this book

Re: An LB9 ? For the TPI Gurus

you'll never get 375TQ out of a 305--without FI (or N20)
Adding TQ is harder then adding HP.

Me--I'd just leave the 350 in there---who cares about judging that much? More enjoyable to drive with the 350.

but maybe you do...so heres my thoughts on a 305

headers, cat-back, SLP runners, porting the heads and a cam would make a good difference. Your 190hp stock--I would guess 240 with those mods (I am ball parking it)

I am pretty sure you have 2.73s---get some 3.42s. A GTA vert would be pretty heavy. Steeper gear would really help get it moving and into the powerband faster.

Is that crank hp or to the pavement. I would imagine that the #s on that link are at the crank. I am guessing your #s are on the pavement is that correct.

I am thinking flywheel hp. Stock was 190---open her up at 240 might be what you get.

Re: An LB9 ? For the TPI Gurus

If some factory MODS got a 190hp LB9 to 230hp, could not more aggressive MODS take 230hp even a little higher? Basically Im asking what could a 1989 which I think just had a cam change do with MODS I am sure you can MOD it beyond the factory 230hp.
