350 H.O. long block swap into a 91 z28 camaro tpi

ok I have a "91" z28 with a tired 5.7 tpi engine. I also have a 2007 350 H.O. gmpp engine that I installed into a 1979 chevy short box stepside pickup. I have been trying to sell the truck with no luck, I want too much for it So I am considering swapping the L98 T.P.I. engine Into the truck for the 350 H.O. engine, realizing that I would need a new intake manifold to make the engine work in the Z28. Would I see an increase in power , and will I see a decrease in fuel economy? This is a daily driver and we also vacation in this beautiful car. On a2000 mile trip last year we made an honest 25 m.p.g. with car 75m.p.h. highway and thru Yellowstone National Park. Mods are Edelbrock T.E.S. headers and T.P.I.S. airfoil plus MSD cap, wires, coil, and K@n air filter, oh, Dynomax exhaust. My gut tells me that this will be a fun mod, but, I respect your collective opinions, and I look forward to them. Thanks, randyZ91.

always hear about someone taking way too much apart

so what you are telling me is that the truck and the car will be down for a while

and for what to keep you from bieng bored

drive the car till it blows and have fun with it and then build a long block with the remaining pieces if there is anything left

fortunatly small blocks are easy to find

after you beat the exhaust out of it and its down after a bit of fun you can still drive the truck

thanks for the reply, the observation, and the advice. I do live in South Dakota and winter is coming. I already have two other 4 wheel drive trucks and the "79" is the "odd man out" at this time. I will have time to pull this off during the winter and I was thinking that I could lower the asking price on the truck and use the money on the Z28 and keep myself from getting bored at the same time as putting an outstanding example of a thirdgen camaro on the road come spring 2009. once again, thanks for the reply, randy.

If the Z28 has it's original numbers matching engine I would rebuild it when it gives out. The car will be worth more money in the long run if it's got a numbers matching drivetrain. You could also pull the 350 HO out of the truck and sell the truck as a rolling chassis and either keep the engine for a rainy day or sell it. Just another suggestion.

I would swap in the 350 HO in a heartbeat. However, I would install a stock LT4 corvette roller camshaft in place of the HO hydraulic flat-tappet cam. More power and better fuel economy. In my experience the Vortec head 350 TPI setup will get BETTER fuel economy than the stock L98 will. The heads are more efficient across the board.

My fullsize express van with the Vortec 350/4L60E/3.42 drivetrain gets 18 mph @ 75 mph on the freeway.

thank you all for the responces, If I rember correctly, the 350 H.O. engine uses an L98 long block. So, what I was considering was a long block swap, and I have kept all the the parts that I have removed so far, would the long block exchange really affect the value of the car? I also would swap the cam for either the LT1 cam or the ZZ4 cam. THANKS, Randy.

Only if the rest of the car is a low mileage bone stock cream puff, and some collector wants your specific car. Other than that, it's a dime a dozen thirdgen Z28. Same as my IROC. Enjoy the car, don't try and worry about it being a possible investment.
