Re: TPI Engine Bay Cleanup

I figure I'd revive this thread since I'd like to see more TPI engines... Here is where I currently am now. I've deleted smog pump, and heater vavle and ac for now, I plan to retrofit a new ac system. I've also removed the windshield cleaner bottle and relocated the coolant overflow tank. I've relocated the cruise control lower. I've tried to clean up all the extra nonsense wiring and ziptie the rest. I have a CS series alternator aswell. I have a hard line copper coolant line from the intake to the heater core... I plan to paint the intake eventually. When the engine is pulled the engine bay will get a serious cleaning. First pic is what I started with, how it looked when I bought it, the other three are now...

nope, Hawks would probably sell them for $99.99. Got it off ebay, just type in "TPI Plate" and it'll come up

If you don't daily drive it, yank away! That said, I am sort of pissed that I pulled the working A/C and cruise control in the name of weight reduction.

It all sort of snow balled when I started modding my car... it was one of those well am doing this..... I may well do this...

If a car is not daily driven, it is hardly making any negative environmental impact. I am not sure how many other states are like the PRC (Peoples Republic of California) but unless they do a visual inspection, you can easily pass with only a cat if your car is in tune.

As for the charcoal canister, I yanked mine and stuck the vent line that went to it into the fender up by the head light. And no, I do not smell gas or flammable vapors.

Close, it was $40 but it wasn't that exact color combo. Yours was exactly what I have been looking for. Thanks for the link. How was the quality of the product and fit?

looking good everyone. I am going to try to retrofit a newer ac system, maybe from a late 90's GM car and swap most of the components...

you can just ditch the charcoal canister and get a vented gas cap instead. it aint much better for the atmosphere but i think itd be safer.

anyways

i so far have bypassed my heater core (it broke and started leaking and i was too lazy to fix it) and i got rid of my AC stuff which i have for sale currently. but something i noticed is what do you do with that little bracket that holes up acouple of lines from the charcoal canister?

Re: TPI Engine Bay Cleanup

Hi Gang! Lots of good ideas here. I'm currently working on putting headers in my 89 GTA and I've pretty much ripped out all the non-essentials: A/C, Smog/AIR, Power Steering, etc.

Here's where I need a little help.

I would like to run just the alternator and water pump. I want to relocate the alternator to the passenger side with an adjustable mounting bracket. From what I've seen, quite a few of you have done this and I it looks simple. I just need to know what to steal the bracket off of. Just a carb Camaro/TA or an old chevy truck?

Also, for the water pump, it looks like some of you have re-used the A/C pulley on the water pump. Did you have to hook up power to the cluch or was it done some other way. Maybe the A/C pulley isn't even used and just looked that way.

Going to this configuration also obviously reverses the water pump rotation so I would need a new water pump. Again, do I just use an old carb camaro/TA or one from a chevy truck?

TIA for all your help. I'll post some pics when I finish up.

Re: TPI Engine Bay Cleanup

well, to answer your question in my case, my car with with vbelts so the alternator was already on the passenger side. Just go to the junkyard and find a mid 80's sbc from a GM vehicle, many of them have vbelts and use those brackets. Many people with the serp also need an A/C delete pulley...but not if you have vbelts....

Browsing through this thread mines a 1990 5.0tpi swapped into my 86T/A im just finished the swap then im touching up the black... but one way to get rid of clutter is to get rid of serpitine belts... and remove ac/ and airpump.

keep in mind im still working on my harness so its spread in some areas

Re: TPI Engine Bay Cleanup

Well I've gotten my headers installed and finally gotten around to taken a couple pics of my engine bay. As I said earlier I've prettyr much removed everything non-essential including A/C, Power Steering, AIR, etc. I relocated the alternator to the passenger side with a mid mount bracket and got a 42.7" belt. I swapped out my water pump for a normal rotation pump. Everything else is pretty much stock (L98) with the exception of my BoschIII injectors from FuelInjectionConnection.com and BBK AFPR.

Sadler, if you need some help with removing things from under your hood PM me and I'll try to help you out.

Here's some link to full size versions of these pics. Warning - very large!
