New to TPI
New to TPI
I all, I'm looking at building a TPI motor. I don't have the money to build a roller motor, but would like to run a solid lifter cam. I'm thinking a 383 or a 377 ci motor with some double hump heads, and nitrous. I'd like 350-400 hp before the nitrous shot. What do I have to do to make this work? injectors, fuel pump/regulator, computer programming.

Soild lifter is usually not a good match with TPI. You get alot of valve train noise with a solid lifter motor. Could mess with the knock sensor. You also tend to get low vaccum depending on your duration with with soild lifter. If money is tight I would recommend the below year one crate motor that puts out 415HP (dyno'd) for less then 3k and this motor will work great with TPI or Fuel injection. It's bascially a LT4 hot cam hyd. roller motor with some tweaked out vortec heads. A proven 400hp combo and it also has alot of vacuum.

Re: New to TPI
Either that or get a roller block from a bone yard (usually from a truck with center bolt valve covers and 1 piece rear main seal). Would have to get the lifters, web and dog bones from a 305 or 350 camaro of firebird 87 +. Also would need to get a cam retainer plate that is under the timing chain in front of the block. This would be your cheapest thing to do. Then rebuild it with the goodies and heads and whatever. Good luck with your build. I'm putting together my engine this way and is turning out good so far.
Re: New to TPI
I just bought a 92 5.0 TPI motor and tranny. This is a hydraulic roller motor, right? It has 73000 miles and I got it for $500. I have found the aluminum heads at enginekits.com. Still looking for a forged rotating assembly and the right cam for what I want to do.
