MPFI to TPI

Hello. I do not know where to put this thread so I hope that you guys can forgive me if it is the wrong section. I know that I do not have a third gen but I was told to come here for help from a guy on fullsizechevy.com. I have a 5.7L 350 in my 1999 GMC Sierra Classic and I recently got a TPI setup from a friend of mine to put on it. I would really appreciate it if you guys could tell me what all the parts that I need and where to find them. My friend said that all that I would need that isnt alread included is the lower intake manifold, the wiring harness, and the computer. I really appreciate your help.

Re: MPFI to TPI

Someone also said that I would need a high flow fuel pump. I know nothing about this swap and I really want to do this swap. I really appreciate any help. Thank you again.

Re: MPFI to TPI

MAF sensor, IAT sensor, IAC sensor, various coolant sensors, TPS sensor, knock sensor, 22lb injectors, new air filter and air intake tract, throttle body, plenum, manifold, runners, definately the harness, HP fuel pump, EGR valve...I'm sure I've missed something...

Re: MPFI to TPI

If you have a 99, then you probably have the L31 Vortec heads. If so, the TPI will not bolt up. You'll need to buy special TPI to Vortec head intake in the 400.00 range.
I did weld up the tops of a stock TPI intake, reface it and use a 1205 felpro gasket, and do the swap once.

Re: MPFI to TPI

Well it is a 99 classic so it is the same 5.7L 350 vortec as the 88-98. I was told that I would need a new lower intake to go with the setup. I would appreciate it if any of you guys could tell me of any companies to check out for the parts or anything. Thank you for the input so far. I really appreciate the help.

Re: MPFI to TPI

Edelbrock, TPiS to name a few for the intake manifold. I like to go to the Summit website and use their search engine to find parts I need. It's sometimes hard to leave with only what I came for.

You might shop around and find cheaper, but here's a part number.

Re: MPFI to TPI

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help. I am also looking at jimsperformance.com I emailed them last night and they sent me back a parts list of what they said I would need with their prices. They do not have the intake manifold and they told me to check scoggins and dickey and sdpc2000.com. I am really looking forward to trying this swap. Thank you again.

Is that truck fuel system the same as the '99 S-10 4.3L CPFI?

I am sure it is.

FYI to the poster "Vortec" is 96-89 (99 in your case since it's a classic) Still gen 1 though.

Re: MPFI to TPI

Just a thought, every vortex powered truck i have ever drove ran better than a stock tuned port. Dont get me wrong i love tuned port but seems kinda strange to go backwards?

might want to learn how to pronounce that right....VORTEC!

Its not a backwards swap, a TPI'd Vortec runs MUCH harder all across the RPM range than the stock CSFI setup does.

Re: MPFI to TPI

I dont think of it as a step back either. Supposedly the TPI swap will add another 30-50 HP to my vortec. I am not an expert by any means on this topic but that is just what I have been told through all my research.
