EGR Info..
I've got a 87 firebird 5.0 TPI,5spd.Will a bad EGR cause high idling?? Would i get a code if it's bad..What's the best way to find out if it's working?

If its not working right, you should get an SES light for code 32 while driving down the highway.
High idling is usually a vacuum leak. A stuck open EGR will cause the intake manifold to become extremely hot, and it will run rough. Its tough to check it on the car, but it requires putting your finger over the vacuum hole, and pushing up on the diaphragm. It should hold the vacuum until you release your finger from the hole.

Might be able to use a vacuum pump with a small hose to check the EGR. Run the engine and use the pump to pull the EGR open and see how it reacts. Watch for the diaphram to move as you pump. Use a mirror if you need to. If no reaction, EGR is bad.
