91 z-28 no warm start/surging idle
hi everyone....new to forum and hope i can get some help! i have a 1991 camaro z-28, 5.0 tpi. it has approx 135000 miles. recently it began acting strange. on a fresh startup it will fire right away. even if left for several weeks it will fire right up. once driven or warmed up and shut off, it will no longer start until it has cooled off (several hours cool down). it is getting spark and will run if starting fluid is sprayed into intake. i changed the fuel filter and air filters. i am not very familiar with the tpi motors but have some experience. also once running it will have a high surging idle. i am stumped. appreciate any insight or suggestions! thanks everyone!

Re: 91 z-28 no warm start/surging idle
My 91 5.7 did the exact same thing. What seems to have corrected it was dropping the gas tank and cleaning all the crap out. Fuel filter and pump got changed. 6 of 8 injectors, computer chip, etc had all gotten changed first. The crap in the tank seemed to keep making it through the filter and clogging the injectors. It's been pretty much fine since the tank got cleaned out. Hope that helps.
