EGR/Header Question

I just got my '87 GTA and the previous owner had headers installed.. They do not have the EGR openings... So when looking at it, you can see the EGR pipe wide open.. Is this a bad thing??

NOTE - the air pump is removed if that means anything... I'm just worried that that metal hose should be blocked off??

Re: EGR/Header Question

Im a tad confused, but.. Ill try anyway.

It is a common misunderstanding to refer to the header tubes as
EGR, when in fact it is your A.I.R/diverter valve/smog pump/catalyct
converter working as a whole.

As long as the pipe/hoses arent connected to a smog pump
(not likely, yours is removed) or a diverter valve in this instance,
which should also be gone because it connects to the air pump.
It shouldnt be an issue, there shouldnt be anything else connected
to the system. If you have a catalyct converter on the car, I strongly
suggest getting fresh air to the cat provided by a air/smog pump.. This
prevents premature cat failure and even high emission.

If I am off-base, it wasnt intentional.
