Insalled my 1.6 rockers.

Well, i decided to install a set of Crane 1.6 full rollers I had purchased for a future motor build. I couldn't look at them any more. Took me about an hour and a half to get the valve covers off, remove the old rockers install new ones, adjust the valve lash and have it back together and running. Here is what I found. There is a slight difference in the idle but nothing to get excited about. There is no noticable power gain except that it squeaks the tires a little more going into second. Now for the part that suprised me. I had set my detent cable a little different so it would shift a touch sooner instead of going over 4500rpm's and falling on it's face. Now I have it set back to shift where it normaly would, 4800-4900 RPM's and it pulls all the way to the shift point. It looks like it some how gained me some power way up on the top end. I don't know if this mod is worth the money if someone went out and bought a brand new set of rockers but I got these cheap and planed to use them for a build. I see alot of guys asking about installing 1.6 rockers so I figured it would answer some questions. Car is an 89' GTA with stock manafolds, heads, springs, valves and a cat back exhaust.

Sounds like they were worth it.

Re: Insalled my 1.6 rockers.

i have the same experiance with my 1.6s
pulls hard all the way to the shift point and i know i do not regret buying them they do nice things for the factory cams

but i have headers they do change the sound car becomes a bit louder i assume because its pulling more air in and pushing more out

Re: Insalled my 1.6 rockers.

i know this is an old thread but you use the stock pushrods too when installing 1.6 rr? so all u have to do is take off the old rockers, put on rr, and adjust valve lash? I wasnt sure if rods and springs needed to be changed. Also did you use self aligning rr? thanks

Re: Insalled my 1.6 rockers.

I put them in my 305 T5 I felt a good difference. I will try to go to the strip next week to see the Ets difference. I had to bump the Fuel press to 50.5 to really feel it and still runs just a bit lean up top. This cars have Hydraulics lifters, I just turn them 1/4 more once I could not spin the pushrods with my fingers.

I post back my improvements at the track
