My project is driving me nuts!

alright so heres the history, my 87 camaro iroc started out as a 305 tpi i swapped everything over to a 350 and it ran pretty well till i pulled the engine. The body was rusted so i moved everything over to another 87 iroc body that was rust free all wiring and ecm ect. at the same time i deleted my AC and my fuel canister. the egr is still there but the air pump was removed before i even got the carand the vaccume port is plugged.

Problem: i put on a new summit balancer and a msd ignition system and i had to reset my timing back to 6 degrees with the advance unplugged, it seems to run alright idleing around 1000rpm but it wont start with the advance plugged back in. and every time it cools off it seems like i have to move my cap a bit just to get it started again then re adjust it back to 6 degrees just for it to idle correctly.

i have check my TPS its running exactly what its sposed to be at, my vaccume holds at 15, my fuel pressure primes to 40psi but it when running it will hit as low as 35psi but i had just replaced the fuel pump and all filters. my fuel pump holder in the tank is broke so i can use some large hose clamps to hold the pump and the pulsator to the unit but it holds fuel pressure when it primes pretty well so i didnt think it would be a problem.

Possible things broke? IAC i havent checked yet, i still have a 305 prom in my ECM(would that change the timing with the computer?) one of my fuel injector to fuel rail clips broke(but it doesnt leak from the rails)

a note about my new balancer, it has 3 solid marks every 1/3 of the balancer and on top of that it has a set of 0 to 60* marks with my timing tab i use the zero mark to go to 6* on the balancer right?

I would say no, the mark you have for 6* is wrong as far as I can see. It looks like from the picture each one of the lines are 2* so if you go up 3 lines from 0* you should be at 6*, if I'm seeing it correct.

on the timing tab the arrow is showing 0 on the balancer its showing 6 im just wondering if i should use the zero on the balancer or the timing tab as my reference point

From the look of it, you have a after market balancer and timing tab. if it was mine I would bring it up on TDC compression stroke and make sure both balancer and timing tab are on zero, then proceed from there. On the adjustable tab you will need to make sure the piston is @ TDC then adj. the red tab as your new zero point if you have'nt done that yet.

i wasnt really bothering with the red tab just using the zero mark. ive done TDC before but i cant get it to stop exactly at zero its pretty close though

Re: My project is driving me nuts!

it seems to start alright now cold but i havent had the chance to let it warm up i have open headers and my neighbors hate me but i stepped on the brakes and gave it some gas to see if i could spin the tires but it tried to stall i noticed i was only idleing at like 600rpm i have a feeling something i jacked up with my fuel pressure and my IAC. i had taken my throttle body off to paint everything is there anything i could have clogged? how can i tell if my fuel pressure regulator is having a problem?
