TPI 5.0L to 5.7L Conversion

I have converted a 1990 Trans Am for a 5.0L with a 700R4 to 5.7L with a T-56. The problem I have now is that the original ECM (1227730) and chip do not like the 5.7L. This generation of OBD is not programable as I understand it. My question is if there is a stand-a-lone system out there that will run my configuration? Even if it means replacing the harness, I would be willing to consider it.

I think the EBL will work , you may be able to use your harness with slight mods and you can program it with a lap top. hope this helps.

Yes you can certainly reprogram the computer in a TPI engine. They're not flashable by the ALDL port, if that's what you mean. You must physically remove the chip from the computer, erase it using UV light, and then use an eprom programmer to put the new information on it.

Read the two tech articles on swapping to a T56 trans, as well as the T56 sticky in the tranny/drivetrain forum. They all have ideas on how to get the speedo to work.

No need to erase the '730 chip with UV light, the new chips are EEPROMS, electrically eraseable. Programmers aren't very expensive, you can find free SW and free logging hardware. Read up on it in the DIY PROM forums.
