max lift
max lift
i bought a set of 083 heads the other day and the guy i bought them from already installed a set of comp cam springs in them, although he forgot the specs on them. they look like a set of 986-16s but he thought the max lift on them was only.480 but he wasn't sure. my question is is there anyway to measure a springs max lift? because im running a lunati 60101 cam and would like to put 1.6 rockers on it but that would put the exhaust valves at .499 lift and don't want to just through them on and damage anything. any help would be appreciated.

Re: max lift
Compress the spring in a vise until the coils bind, then measure the height. Subtract that plus a safety margin from the installed height.

Re: max lift
you need .060"min between the coils at max lift.
