Thread tape use on sensors etc

When replacing sensors such as coolant temp sensor, is it okay to use thread tape to prevent any leaks? Some posts suggest that it is okay and some say never to use it?

Re: Thread tape use on sensors etc

I would use thread sealant with teflon before using tape.
Better ground conductivity.
