a few questions about a swap
yesterday i pretty much walked into an 350tpi motor while looking for a hood. can anyone give me a list of things I'll need to do for a swap into my 91 305tbi rs? motor came with computer but Im mostly concerned with how much wiring will be required. I don't want a hack job that'll burn to the ground.
question 2. is there any inherent problem with running a 5.7 tpi motor in front of a t5? 3.73 rear gears.

Re: a few questions about a swap
This would be better suited in the engine swap forum. But to answer your question, you can run the 350 in front of the t5 no problem, but if you start making any power you really need a different transmission.. or at least build the t5 up, but still it will not last if your going to beat on it.
Why not just build the 5.7 up in your spare time and just keep the 305 until its built? Thats what i would do lmao

Re: a few questions about a swap
thank you for the reply ilike but im only going to use the tpi setup from this 5.7. i already have a 400 horse 355 sitting around that im going to be using so the power is going to be there. I am going to be building the trans as well. does anyone know if ill have to replace the wiring harness or not?

I dont think you would have to replace the wiring harness. Just make sure to throughly inspect it before install to make sure no damage is present. Just intake you have some funny drivability or idle issues, you'll know the harness wasnt the problem. Trust me it sucks to have to remove all that and start over, over something small.
And to be honest, the t5 probably isnt going to hold up with 400 hp. My 383 has about 500 so i just splurged and got a t56 and havent regreted it one bit. Easy install, better fuel economy, handles more power, and makes it unique! What more could you want?

Re: a few questions about a swap
You will need a harness from a tpi car, or you can have the tbi harness repinned. You will also need to change the fuel pump, throttle cable, and kick down cable, the tbi ones are too short.

i think you need around 50 psi pump. and sorry about the question you asked. i led you wrong. you will need a tpi harness. i thought you mean if you could use the tpi harness from the junkyard engine.

Re: a few questions about a swap
ok its not a problem. not much extra cost, just a little time. Im just glad we have a lift and stuff for the fuel pump swap. Dropping a tank is no fun at all laying on your back...

yeah im trying to get as much done before i leave. i did a larger flow fuel pump in my 92 and it worked out well with an enlarged throttle body.
