well lubed distributor

Was wondering how oil might get into the distributor. By this i mean inside the housing by the pickup and electronic module. It is a 89 350 tpi. Noticed oil buildup on the back of the intake manifold all around the distributor housing and when i took the cap off there was a small amount inside so i am guessing the oil buildup is from it leaking out the small screen on the bottom of the distributor. My guess is either there is a seal in the distributor that is shot even tho it is only 2 years old, or since it does drive the oil pump, there is a problem with the oil pump. Just seeing if anyone had a similar problem.

Thanks
Bill

Well, have you ever seen a dirty PCV valve? Oil does vaporize when hot. In time, the oil vapor will travel through the nooks and cranies. The crankcase has positive pressure so vaporized oil shouldnt but can end up inside the cap housing. What you got is a oil covered pick-up coil. Check the condition of your PCV valve.
