misfire/skipping

1987 Iroc, was a 305 car, now its a 350tpi. Last year when I got the car, I replaced the cap, rotor, pickup coil, module, wires and plugs cause there was a skip. Driving down the road yesterday and I smelled like a burning wire and it blew the acc fuse. I replaced the fuse and I was driving and started to smell the burning wire again and it went away, pulled into the gas station to top off the gas and went on my way. About 10 miles down the road it all of a sudden started running like crap. motor is vibrating and not running all all 8 so it seems. I ohmed all the wires, they look good, cap and rotor look good, pulled all the plugs and they look good. Went and bought a new magnetic pickup and installed that thinking that went bad again and it still runs like crap. I checked the codes and pulled a code 42. I never checked the codes before cause the car ran like a top so I do not know how long that code was in there. I cleared the code and went for a drive to see if it would come back on and it did not, so I have no dam clue what to do now. I put k100 in the gas tank in case i got bad gas but I really dont think thats it. Its def skipping when u take off from a stop and does not stop. Any ideas what to check from here? Like I said it was running like a champ and than bam! skipping......thanks for the help guys. Ohhh it also has new injectors last summer and I checked them and the all ohm at 17.

Re: misfire/skipping

What's a code 42 again? Possible EGR blockage? IAC motor needing reset? You hit all the ignition items right outta the gate it seems.

FIXED!!! Replaced the cap, rotor, wires and plugs and she runs like a top again. The old cap, rotor, wires and plugs were not even a year old.

Great to hear. They weren't Acell wires by chance were they? I've used them 2x and both times they didn't last long at all.

They were Napa wires, they gave me new ones for free and she runs fine now. I even ohmed the wires and they all checked out ok..Things like this make me lose my hair..lol
