fuel injector swap question

I'm using the tech article called "TPI Injector Swap" to swap my old fuel injectors for new BOSCH III's and I'm stuck on Step 14.

Step 14: "Turn the fuel rail upside down so you have the injectors facing up. Using a flat blade screwdriver, rotate the clip that holds the injector to the fuel rail to the left (clockwise) only until it reaches the flat area, then grip the injector firmly and wiggle the injector while pulling up on it. It takes a fair amount of effort to remove the injector from the fuel rail, so be aware."

None of my old Injectors had a "clip" holding them on to the fuel rail. They were just kind of plugged into the fuel rail and only required a little effort to pull them out.

Why am I missing these clips? Are they important? Do all fuel rails have them? I've been driving without them for as long as I've owned the car (10 years), so I hope they aren't crucial.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

the clips have no value but to hold the injectors on the rail during assembly you do not need them

Re: fuel injector swap question

I thought so. That means I probably didn't even have to remove the fuel rail at all. Oh well, better safe...Thanks!!
