Camshaft, will it work? Lost in all the specs!
I recently bought a cam from 86copchaser76 here on the boards. Ive been looking at the specs just to make sure this cam will work for my car.
I have a 85' TPI 305 bone stock.
The cam is a Crane Cams Powermax 2050 Part#114142
According to the specs on thier site, it is for use with a carb only and says spring kit required for max performance.
http://cranecams.com/?show=browsePar...42&lvl=2&prt=5
Im not worried about MAX performance, Im looking for some opinions, will this work with a bone stock 305 tpi motor?
I have found a couple people using it with tpi engines, i just cant be sure enough.

is what that is. The cam does not know what you're using for fueling and does not care, likewise the carb or FI does not care either. More important than that is if the specs are appropriate for the rest of your engine INCLUDING the fuel delivery.Anyway, that cam is similar to what I wanted to run in my 86 TPI. Ideally you'll want a tune (that could be an issue with the 85 ECM) and the .480 lift on the exhaust side could be an issue with valve guide-retainer clearance depending on the tolerances and if the engine has been rebuilt or not. I'd get springs, the stock ones suck right from the box, and ditch the rotators and oil shields and the clearance might work out fine without any additional headache.
A smaller cam might be more ideal, but none of us ever work with ideals. Having run what would really be the next smaller cam I wanted a bigger one for my car so I'd go with it myself. The only concern I can see anyone having is the 228 duration on the exhaust side. With 216 on the intake, should run well.
