Car Stalled, plus gas read goes from 1/2 tank to zero
Car Stalled, plus gas read goes from 1/2 tank to zero
Ok, I recently bought my third gen dream car, and I've noticed a couple of items. First, I stopped to get gas, my Firebird stalled. I tried to turn the ignition, and it wouldn't start. 15 min later, I tried it one more time and it started. It could be nothing, but I still wonder if I need a new starter, ignition, or both.
Secondly, when I have half a tank of gas and I try coming to a stop, I watch the needle go from 1/2 to zero, then the car stalls and goes dead. When I put it in park, and restart the car, it will start back up, and the needle goes back to 1/2 a tank. The engine is a V-8 5.0 L TPI. Is this common and is there a solution to fixing this problem? Any help or advise I would appreciate.

Sounds like the correlation is between the fuel-sending unit and the fuel pump. If the wires are crossed up (or shorting out, hopefully not), the fuel pump could be dying and the fuel gage sending unit is the culprit. Just my two cents.
