Mass air flow code
1986 iroc I just installed a new long block a few months ago and got back on the road after two years and it sure feels good. i was getting a code for the speed sensor so i replaced the speed o cable. the chk engine light would only come on after i was on the freeway for a few miles and lifted off the gas pedal. when i was putting in the new cable i unplugged the relays near the booster and when i tried to start the fuel pump would not work. i had hooked the up wrong and i checked the main fuse near the battery and it was blown. i replaced it and the car stared up, but now it wont idle and when i release the key after starting it wont idle it will just die unless i hold the accelerator and then it seems to catch up and run, im getting code33 for mass air flow it think.........now on cold starts it run real rich but clears up after a few min.......i didn't run like this before. also getting check engine lamp all the time now. I have K&N air filters, could the oil have gotten on the mass air flow? i cleaned them a couple of weeks ago but it was running fine until i screwed the relays, any ideas?https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/imag...es/driving.gif

Re: Mass air flow code
I ran the same as you, albeit intermittently. I had codes 33,34,36 all at once! I swapped both relays and cleaned the MAF out with contact cleaner and its like a whole new car. I don't puff smoke at startup, don't run rich anymore, idle is stable... It does wonders.
I don't run K&N filters, just cheapy STP paper ones so I'm not sure if the oil is the cause or not. My car was just neglected over the years. I'd replace both relays since they are only around $10 each or so. Then, clean out the MAF with some Contact Cleaner. Let it sit and dry for a while before you put it back on.

What worries me is what you did to blow the fuse , did you damage something else electrically at the same time before the fuse blew?
Can follow through the MAF diagnostics to check operation

Re: Mass air flow code
Vettoz, well, I was changing the speedo cable and did something real stupid, I unplugged the the three relays and didn't pay attention when i plugged them in and plugged them in wrong, after I blew the fuse the fuel pump would not come on, I tracked down the blown fuse, I changed the Mass Air flow sensor and the MAF relay and I'm still having the same problem. so I going to have to look a little more. Is there something that I could have taken out with my wiring mix up? also when I turn on the key, when i release the key the car die unless i press the gas pedal.............

Re: Mass air flow code
Well, I changed the mass air flow sensor and I still had code33. I changed the burn-off relay with a delco 10067925 that I got from TPI parts, I replaced the fuel Pump relay with the AR255 from Napa, it seemed to be the same(the same number burned into the top) So I believe it was replaced at some point in the past. I replace the MAF Power relay with the Napa AR227 that I believe is the same as the burn off. So with some contact cleaner and some dielectric grease and the car runs smooth as silk and has lots of power with a strong smooth and clean Idle. thanks to everyone that added to the thread.......back on the road! thanks!
