TPI porting question!

I currently have ported and simeased my Edelbrock intake manifold, runners and stock plenum. I've measured the I.D's and its about Ø1.700 on average. Looking at mine there really does not seem to be much meat left. But I have seen some people on hear who say they have opened there's up to Ø2.0. So what are you guys doing exactly to accomplish those numbers?

Re: TPI porting question!

I think you are reading the posts wrong and confusing OD with ID. I am currently working on one with the runners at 1.875" ID. The entrance to the base will be 1.875" but that is with a lot of welding and relocating two bolt holes on the base. The OD of the tubing is 2.00". We have taken the ID out to 1.75"+ with no problems on the TPI systems you are talking about.

The one with the 2.0" ID is with First Injection intake TPI system and that is proposed. From my measurements that is doable with the runners. I am currently working on an Accel SuperRam project and we are going to take the the runners out to 1.80". Again that is with welding and bolt spacers to move the head of the bolt out so it does not interfere. On the base the 1.80" will start to taper down right away.

Re: TPI porting question!

I've seen a few people talk about extrusion hone. What is the process for that, is it expensive, and worth it. Would that be something for me to consider since I'm at 1.700, or would I just be wasting money?

Re: TPI porting question!

Yes it is expensive. It will add about .040" diameter to your parts. I will say some of the cars in our club have had it done and there performance seems to be above average. I would say there is something to it. However only you can decide it it is worth it.

Who does this kind of work, as I'd like to talk to them more about it?

Here's the link to the prices - might save you a phone call,, unless all you want is to extrude hone the runners,, which that seems fairly reasonable,, even as a cleanup to already ported runners.
