How to tell if this is correct year/app EGR soleniod by #s stamped on it?

I have an EGR solenoid that came with a bunch of TPI parts and I want to know if it is the 87+ TPI correct solenoid. The part #s stamped on it are 9176 DR 171

Can anyone tell me from those #s what application this solenoid is? Thanks

Also does anyone know if an 88-92 TBI EGR solenoid will work in place of the no-longer-available TPI solenoid? I have one from an 88 K1500 TBI and it has the same connector (which I realize doesn't mean anything w/ these sensors)

Steve
