My car was not starting to good,but with a shot of starting fluid it would at least start.It was giving a slight backfire through the exsaust.so I put some seafoam in the gas and run it a short while. The back fire went away but a high idle took its place. Now it dosn't want to start back up even with starting fluid.The previous owners did not take very good care of the car because it only has 68xxx on it and spent alot of time sitting.I've had this car about 6 months and trying to work the bugs out of it.Can the fuel get to rich to start with this seafoam stuff?Oh yes when I started the car earlyer in the day it was getting plenty of fuel.Any help ?

 

I'm having similar issues with my '88 IROC. It was originally a 305, put the previous owner had installed a 350 with the original intake, sensors and ecm. My mechanic thinks the mass airflow sensor or the ecm may be bad, and has ruled out any ignition issues. Good luck.

 

it started this morning,run ruff but atleast started.When I bought my car the maf wasn't even hooked up.Mice had eat the wires in two.I spliced them bac together and it would start better.But still wanted to give me a hard time when shut off and try to restart right away.I'm leaning tward a bad gas problem.If it's the maf sensor I'll get that later.The fuel stinks.
