Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

Every TPI car, regardless of the year, has an oxygen sensor. Take a look at your driver's side exhaust manifold down at the collector, where it bolts up to the y-pipe. There should be an oxygen sensor there, with one wire leading to it.

Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

hello

yes i have there o2 sensor, but i wondering that why there is no wires in engine room and no in connector to ecm and harness looks like that nobody haven`t cut these purple and tan wires away.but if somebody cut/remove wires should i get error code from ecm .can it be possible that my car is export model( i am from Finland)? my opinion is also that every tpi model use o2 sensor.but i asked my local dealer about this issue and they couldn`t give me any anserw.do you think that i go and buy new sensor and put new wires to ecm and there is no any problems to do this?

Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

the car would not run properly without a oxygen sensor it will run rich and never go into closed loop. Is this some rh conversion?

Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

I didn't know if the car had been converted to right hand drive it was messed up than. I would install a o2 sensor and if you do not have a provision on the left side manifold you will need to do one downstream and use a heated oxygen sensor

Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

are you sure you are looking in the right cavity of the ecm connector. no feedback from a disconnected o2 sensor the ecm does not know its running rich or lean. sounds like you need to trace that purple wire starting at the manifold.

Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

i looked from 32-pin connector and D-line positions D6 and D7 and these are empty and i couldn`t find these colours purple and tan wires .this connector should be right one i found pictures of it and explanations of postions. i checked whole harness and there is no any "extra" unplugged wires. that why i am here cause there is no any sense what i have seen in my car

Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

Looks like you need to run a new wire than if you are unable too trace it back.

Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

a export would not have a smog pump. but there is no way to make it run good with no oxygen sensor. I can identify the tune off the 3 to 4 letters on the silver sticker on the ecm's chip.

Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

That broadcast code ( programing was used in the united states) It's not some wierd export that does not contain o2 functions. You will need to run a wire from the o2 sensor to the ecm.

bcc ABBK, year 1987, release31646 gm part number16066043, ecm1227165 scan id6046 6041 ,platformFB ,engine codeLB9 5.0, MD8 AUTO transmission

Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

Check some of the pins like ECM power to determine your orientation

Re: tpi 5.0l camaro

Hello Gents!

I´m new to this forum but I have been reading it already for a while. This post got my attention since I´m also From Finland and my problem is exactly as described above.

- O2 sensor in manifold, wire hanging free
- No wired to D6 & D7 pins in ECM connector and no PPL wire anywhere
- Same Prom as mentioned above

So I will pull a new wire from O2 sensor to D7 and pray... Yes, and I have also some issues with idle...
