86 Trans-am 305 T.P.I. no start after new fuel pump.
86 Trans-am 305 T.P.I. no start after new fuel pump.
Hey guys I just changed my fuel pump on my 86 Trans-am that I bought for 300 bucks. I also changed the in line fuel filter. The car will crank and it is getting spark as I tested the number one wire while cranking the car. The pump primes up and everything. The car feels like it wants to start but I am at a loss. I have done the through the trunk method just fyi, don't think that would make a difference though.
Any help would be appreciated and as always thanks guys.

Couple of things to check. Is the in-line fuel filter installed for flow in the right direction? Could be the small piece of fuel hose that attaches the pump to the sender. I have sen these split, even on new installations. Apply 12V to the bottom left ALDL port- this should start the FP running. Listen for the pump, and then check the FP at the rail after about 5 seconds of running. No FP means the pump is not pushing the Fuel to the Rail- check above items. No Fp whine means pump is not running.

Also, dont forget to put some new fuel back in the tank..

Thanks. I did the removing the fuel pump through the trunk method so I never dropped the tank. It has 3/4 of a tank and I bought a Delphi pump. I primed the hell out of the pump with the key and I can hear it whine for a couple seconds then the relay clicks under the hood as it should. I pulled the number one wire and cranked it, it shocked the hell out of me so I know I'm getting spark. It almost wants to go but I get no pressure at the fuel rail. My pump plugs into what I'm guessing is a check valve that attaches to the pipe.
