What's up w/SLP, and how to get some more HP...
So I take it SLP is pretty much out of the 3rd Gen. business? The only item they had under 'Exhaust Components' was an 'S-Pipe' for headers they apparently no longer even make. What gives? Because GM pulled the Pontiac plug, they decided to no longer provide the die-hard Fbody fans any aftermarket perf. part support? That's crappy. I'm guessing they have a somewhat limited supply of their intake runners left, yet they still want $330 & change for 'em! Are these good (power-adding) runners? Are there any better and/or cheaper runners out there? Also, who makes a good quality CAI for these cars anymore, and what should I expect to pay? HP increase w/a CAI? I know it was substantial on my 4th gen cars.
And yes, I know this is a 'loaded' question, but what is the easiest, most economical way to get to 250-270 hp w/a '86 305 TPI? I don't want to go crazy w/this car, but it'd be nice to be able to outrun my g/f's '06 GP (base).
BTW, I was on Hawk's Third Gen. site, and I saw they had Hooker Shorties (ceramic coated) for two distinctly different prices. One was like $379, and the other set (looks identical) were like $579. Both said "Y-pipe not included, available at extra cost", and that piece was yet another chunk of change. I was thinking the more expensive set possibly included the Y-pipe w/the higher price.(?)
Anyone know what the deal is w/that?
Thanks in advance!

SLP has a vested business interest in providing parts for newer performance vehicles. Parts for new cars have better profit margins than for cars which sell commonly under 10 grand.
Have you contacted Hawk's regarding the two headers other than the obvious material (stainless steel) difference? They're pretty good at answering questions.
I'd do headers before even considering air cleaner parts.
As for the power level of TPI, the runner length prevents the powerbrand from going higher effectively. Yeah, you can port and get aftermarket runners and change cam and make some better power but it's still not an intake manifold I'd recommend if you're wanting to beat late model cars. Get headers that'll work now and with a new engine too and plan that new engine.
