at what point for bigger injectors?

i need to replace all my fuel injectors since theyre all 26 years old, but wasn't sure if i should go with stockers or if i'd need bigger injectors for my engine build i'm doing.
here are the engine specs:
5.7 2 bolt main
crane 2032 cam
summit aluminum heads
port / polished intake manifold
custom chip
hooker shorty headers

also i'm curious about the pro's / con's of a fuel pressure regulator and at what point i'd need one.

any insight is greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: at what point for bigger injectors?

22s will work just fine with that cam. A afpr is a mask IMO, If your not going to datalog and tune your engine increasing the fuel pressure will increase the injector flow #hr and richen the air/fuel mixture.

I'd do a set of Bosch 3's- 22# and a new FR. Adjustable since you have some AM bolt on stuff... chips etc.

Re: at what point for bigger injectors?

how much do you think i can benefit from an adjustable fuel reg though? i just noticed its about $125+ for it, and im going to wind up shelling out 375+ it seems for injectors and still have to purchase SLP intake runners, so i'm just trying to save a few bucks lol

Re: at what point for bigger injectors?

For maintenance getting a new for diaphragm from southbay would be a good idea. I personally don't like to use afpr.

You can see how pressure effects the injector with the megasquirt calculator.

Re: at what point for bigger injectors?

22's at stock pressure should support 320-330 whp or so, 80-90% duty.
24's seem to do 350-360 whp 80-90% duty stock pressures
30's should get closer to 400
36's should get closer to 450's
42's have done 520's
60's somewhere close to 650-700
80's closer to 750-800whp
105's 1000+

Rough estimates on gas

Re: at what point for bigger injectors?

need to know exactly what you want to get out of your build. What kind of horsepower do you want to run? If you are basically. If you are going to stay with the 22's and adjustable fuel pressure regulator is really not necessary.

I'd really like to get 350 - 375 hp out, that is what i'm really aiming for. i'm not really looking to run it at the strip yet, for now just trying to get the most power i can for this motor. I feel 350-375 is a good area to aim for with this motor setup. should i look into 24lb injectors?

Re: at what point for bigger injectors?

No they are not too big. You can probably go with a set of 27's or 30's

Re: at what point for bigger injectors?

alright cool, i'll probably go with the 27's soon. I'll probably order it through you guys since you seem to have the best price and have a good reputation on this site. should i also get an AFPR? I'm not sure how to set one though.
