Has anyone done a L98 cam into a LT1?
Has anyone done a L98 cam into a LT1?
I am mesmerized by the off the line pull the L98 has and I want to marry that into a good breathing engine with the LT1. I know I can use the stock LT1 cam or a plethora of aftermarket cams, but, I hear plenty of stories how the L98 beats them off the line every time, and, that's the cam I am interested in.
Anyone try it for shts n giggles to see what would happen?

L98 cam lacks the dowel drive required on an LT1. Long runner intake pipes aid L98 in producing low end torque, it's not just the cam.

You could try the B-Body LT1 cam. It is designed for more low end torque, as it had to get a heavy Caprice moving. It's about the same came as used in the L31 vortec truck engine, which I am using. I had the higher performance LT1 cam in my L69, and was going to put that in the L31, but decided to leave the torque cam installed. So far, I have liked it. "light em up" any time I want!

The cams are so close in numbers id bet you couldn't measure a 2hp 2lbft of tq difference, maybe 5 each if lucky.
Its the intakes that are making 99% of the difference in the power band.

Can always drill for a pin. I know the runners have some play, but, a cam is what determines the engines powerband. If your saying both cams are tuned to make the same power at the same RPMs, then yes, it is a moot point.
Interesting note about the cams. If its all about the runners giving the off the line advantage, do I stick with the L98 since it is going into my truck? Its not doing ANY racing.

And about the pin length, all you do is pull it out a bit or push it in a bit. Again, its really not a big deal.
I put a super modded tpi on a tbi truck a loooong time ago and it was a pulling monster.
